Using his background in food technology and his comprehensive understanding of the laws governing the food industry, Martin Hahn helps clients navigate through the countless regulatory and business issues impacting the industry from farm to table.

He recognizes the demands clients face and finds innovative and creative solutions, particularly when responding to observations raised by regulators during inspections. Whether the issue involves obtaining the authorization of a new food or dietary ingredient, complying with manufacturing requirements, labeling or advertising, product recalls, or enforcement, Martin serves as an effective advisor and advocate.

Martin has handled almost every issue impacting the food industry. He has a comprehensive understanding of the laws affecting the labeling and advertising of foods, dietary supplements, infant formulas, medical foods, and foods for special dietary use. He helps anticipate new trends and develops the data needed to distinguish a client’s products from others on the market. Martin uses his understanding of science and technology in the food industry to provide assistance in obtaining regulatory authorizations to market new food ingredients, food packaging materials, and dietary ingredients. He assists in responding to proposed regulations and draft guidance to keep clients informed on the latest trends in class action law suits to help anticipate new regulatory initiatives.

Martin grew up on a farm and worked in food processing plants before going to law school. His hands-on experience in the field and degree in food technology allow him to better understand the challenges his clients face in complying with the laws impacting food manufacturing.

Beth Johnson

Founder and Principal, Food Directions

Founder and Principal of Food Directions, Beth Johnson brings over 25 years of food policy experience serving inside and outside the government, including the Food and Drug Administration, US Department of Agriculture, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and the National Restaurant Association, where she built strong relationships with a broad group of stakeholders and a unique and in-depth understanding of how industry can impact policy decisions. Over the years, Johnson has been involved in policy negotiations and development at the local, state, federal and international level. She also helped lead USDA’s work on CODEX and the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Beth holds relationships with administration officials, agency career staff, key congressional offices as well as public health and consumer advocates that help pave the way for fruitful discussions for our clients.

Alexis Settineri

Senior Food Policy Manager, Food Directions

Alexis Settineri is a Senior Food Policy Manager at Food Directions where she currently leads the advancement of food policy priorities for US trade associations and food companies across the supply chain. She has over 8 years of experience representing the food industry in the evolving regulatory landscape in Washington DC. Previously, she served as Manager of Communications at the American Frozen Food Institute where she helped communicate scientific and retail market insights for the frozen food industry. Alexis currently lives in Washington DC and earned her undergraduate degrees in nutritional sciences and Spanish from The Pennsylvania State University.

Maggie Gentile is a Partner at Food Directions LLC, where she has been advancing food and nutrition policy since 2011. In her role, she leads client strategy, manages day-to-day priorities, and helps shape industry engagement across a broad spectrum of regulatory, legislative, and communications issues. Gentile is a recognized expert in public affairs and coalition building, with prior experience at Edelman, GolinHarris, and the National Restaurant Association. At the Association, she led initiatives under the Food and Healthy Living program, advising on emerging nutrition policy and representing the industry’s voice to policymakers and stakeholders. A registered dietitian, Gentile holds a master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Miami University. She lives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., with her husband and three daughters.

Jennifer Sweeney

Head of Government Affairs & Public Liaison, The Campbell’s Company

Jennifer Sweeney serves as Head of Government Affairs and Public Liaison at The Campbell’s Company.

In her role, Jennifer manages activities and relationships with local, state, and federal governments, legislatures, and regulatory agencies throughout the United States. She supports Campbell’s business in Canada and export markets around the world. She leads the company’s international trade policy portfolio as well as the company’s participation in trade associations. Before joining Campbell’s, she served as an aide in the United States Senate.

Jennifer serves on the boards of the Food Industry Association Executives, BIPAC, and the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey. She is an adjunct professor at Villanova University and teaches in the Master of Public Affairs program.

Jennifer earned a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science from Grove City College.

Veronica Colas

Veronica is a Partner with SNAC’s general counsel, Hogan Lovells. She has practiced food and beverage regulatory law for 14 years, and counsels clients on the regulations and policy issues affecting food companies. Using her keen awareness of today’s litigation environment, Veronica helps develop new products, label claims, and advertising materials. Veronica helps clients manage litigation risk while achieving key business objectives, and develops practical strategies to handle regulatory compliance, respond to enforcement actions, and shape agency rulemaking.

As a senior associate in our Appellate practice, Danielle Desaulniers Stempel focuses on appellate litigation in federal and state courts.  Her experience spans a range of topics, including administrative, patent, antitrust, energy, health care, constitutional, and criminal law. Danielle has briefed cases at every level of the federal judiciary, including six merits cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as in state intermediate courts and courts of last resort.  She has argued multiple cases, including before the Third Circuit, Fifth Circuit, and Maryland Supreme Court.  

Danielle maintains a robust pro bono practice. She served as a Special Attorney for the State of Minnesota in the prosecution of the four former police officers charged in connection with the death of George Floyd. Sarah Gallo is senior vice president, product policy and federal affairs, at the Consumer Brands Association. Wendy Reinhardt Kapask

Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, MS, RDN is President and CEO of the International Food Information Council (IFIC), a nonprofit 501c(3) research and education foundation focused on effectively communicating science-based information about food safety, nutrition, and sustainable food systems, serving the public good.

Prior to joining IFIC, Wendy served as the President and CEO of the Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) (now known as the Foundation for Fresh Produce). At PBH, she guided the Foundation’s efforts with hundreds of public and private partners to advance fruit and vegetable consumption for happier, healthier lives. Under her leadership and through a two-year transformation, the organization launched the Have A Plant® Movement in 2019, which today inspires millions of consumers to eat and enjoy more fruits and vegetables every day.

From 2012 to 2016, Reinhardt Kapsak held multiple leadership positions in the Food, Nutrition & Health Partnerships as well as Corporate Engagement verticals at what is now known as Bayer Crop Science.
