SNAC Members Engage & Educate Washington, DC on Industry Priorities
The Legislative Summit is SNAC International’s annual opportunity for members to visit Washington to meet with Members of Congress to discuss the industry’s key issues and how legislative policy affects their business. SNAC facilitates meetings with Senators and Representatives, and all first-time attendees are accompanied by a member of the SNAC staff. SNAC also provides thorough briefings in advance to ensure attendees are prepared to discuss the industry’s most pressing issues.

2023 Legislative Summit Recap
Earlier this month, more than 40 snack industry leaders headed to Capitol Hill to participate in over 80 meetings with Members of Congress. SNAC members discussed priority issues with legislators, including protecting SNAP choice, addressing sodium reduction, tackling transportation issues and driver shortages, and prioritizing America’s workforce. SNAC’s Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee also met as a part of the Legislative Summit.

During the breakfast briefing on Wednesday morning, Senator Tina Smith (D – MN), Senator Smith discussed her background as a former General Mills businesswoman, and gave attendees insight into issues she and her Senate Agriculture Committee colleagues are tackling during the upcoming Farm Bill process.

Senate Ag Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow Meets with SNAC Members
After a full day of Hill Meetings, the full SNAC Legislative Summit attendance met privately with Senator Stabenow, who discussed her long career as a public servant, her plans for retirement, as well as detailing how she foresees the Farm Bill playing out and the need to preserve SNAP and food assistance programs.
