About the Presenters
Robert J. Bies, Ph.D., Stanford University, is Professor of Management and Founder and First Academic Director of the Executive Master’s in Leadership Program at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. He is currently the Academic Director of the Executive Master’s in Leadership Program for D.C. Public School Leaders. Professor Bies’ current research focuses on leadership, the delivery of bad news, organizational justice, and revenge and forgiveness in the workplace.
Rodney’s work speaking on the “Business of Relationships” was borne from real-world experience and success. For the last 20 years he has been the SVP/Business Development & Partnerships for a large, international B2B vendor based in Nashville, as it grew from $100M annual revenue to $8B. In that role, he has identified, cultivated, and built strong, authentic, trusted business relationships with key stakeholders and clients at companies and organizations of all sizes. He’s brought those same skills to civic work where he’s been appointed by the Dallas City Council to two city Boards, and is currently Vice Chair of DART, the largest public transit agency in Texas that serves Dallas and 12 adjacent cities.
This workshop was originally created as a 15-hour program for his company’s top client-facing leaders. In 2023, UT Austin’s Human Dimensions Organization (HDO) invited Rodney (with Dr. Keri Stephens) to organize the content as a 1-day executive education course, where it continues to be offered. He now presents the program as a customized ½-day workshop for companies, trade associations, professional service firms, and non-profit organizations.
