SNAC, Printpack Saddened to Announce the Passing of Chairman Emeritus, Gay M. Love
Printpack is saddened to announce that Chairman Emeritus, Gay M. Love, passed away quietly and peacefully at her home on May 28, 2020, at the age of 90. Mrs. Love was the widow of the founder of Printpack, J. Erskine Love Jr. They married in 1954, two years before Printpack was founded in 1956. “Our mom’s passing marks a milestone in the history of our company, as she was a founding partner with our dad when Printpack started in 1956. Much of the initial investment in the company came from a small dowry from her father, so to say that Printpack is deeply indebted to Gay Love for our success over the last sixty-plus years is an understatement,” said current Chairman and CEO, Jimmy Love. Gay Love was highly engaged with her husband in developing relationships with some of Printpack’s earliest customers, helping establish Printpack’s reputation as one of the clear leaders in the flexible packaging industry. SNAC will pass on information about memorial service and donations as we receive it. Read more.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATES
SNAC, FBIA Reiterates Importance of Notifying Consumers of Ingredient Changes
As SNAC previously reported, FDA provided ingredient labeling flexibility for instances of temporary supply disruption on May 22, 2020. The guidance allows manufacturers to make minor formulation changes without making corresponding label changes, such as small changes to product ingredients. In response to concerns raised by the allergen community, SNAC reiterated the intent of the industry’s request for flexibility and the importance of alerting consumers to any changes in ingredients via company websites or at point-of-purchase. Please see the statement here prepared by the Food and Beverage Issue Alliance (FBIA) of which SNAC is a member.

Acosta Research Finds Shoppers Have Mixed Views on When Life Will Return to ‘Normal’
“Three months into the pandemic, consumers are not surprisingly seeking the light at the end of the tunnel, but not all are optimistic about, or supportive of, a quick return to normalcy due to continuing health concerns,” said Darian Pickett, CEO of Acosta. “With shoppers settling into their new routines, ‘normal’ life will not look like pre-COVID-19 life, at least not entirely. Our research shows that bringing reusable bags to stores may become a thing of the past and using hand sanitizer and masks while shopping is likely to remain common practice even after the pandemic subsides.” Read more.

Meet Giant Foods’ New President
Ira Kress has worked for Ahold Delhaize USA's Giant Foods brand for 36 years, but he’s quick to tell you that longevity doesn’t necessarily indicate stability. Kress is taking the reins at what looks to be the dawn of another new era, if not for Giant then the industry as a whole: navigating a destabilized post-COVID world. And like other assignments in his career—that part-time cashier job turned into a management training program, 10 years in operations, 20 in human resources and labor relations, then a switch back to operations before assuming the interim president role a year ago—he’s taking it in stride.
