2025 Q4 Highlights

SNACtrac Industry Indicators

  • According to Circana, Snack Food dollar sales in the fourth quarter of 2025 totaled $19.8 billion, an increase of 2.5% compared to the corresponding quarter in 2024. Unit sales were up slightly 0.2% for the same period. Within the savory snacks category, dollar and unit sales were up for many products compared to a year ago, including potato chips, cheese snacks, pretzels, corn snacks, and ready-to-eat popcorn/caramel corn.
  • The Consumer Price Index for Snack Foods increased 2.2% in December 2025 compared to the previous year, following significant increases in the CPI that began during the inflationary period in 2022.
  • Unemployment decreased slightly to 4.0% in December 2025. The average hourly wage for the manufacturing sector (nondurable goods) was up 4.5% compared to a year ago.
  • In the area of transportation and packaging, diesel fuel costs increased 2.0% compared to a year ago. The LMI Transportation Prices Subindex held fairly steady. The Producer Price Index (PPI) for Corrugated and Solid Fiber Box Manufacturing was up in December 2025 by 4.7%, while the PPI for Plastics Material and Resin Manufacturing was down 4.1%.

SNACshot Survey

  • Company outlook for snack food manufacturers held steady in 2025Q4, with 80% expressing a ‘positive’ outlook for the next 6 months (compared to 79% in the previous quarter).
  • Regarding company sales, 20% of snack food manufacturers reported increased sales in 2025Q4, steady from the third quarter, but down significantly from 64% reporting increased sales in 2025Q2. Nearly four in ten (40%) snack food manufacturers reported decreased sales in 2025Q4, compared to 29% last quarter, and none in 2025Q2.
  • Concerns about weaker domestic economy and sales to U.S. customers increased to 56% in the fourth quarter, up from 31% in 2025Q3.
  • Concerns about raw materials costs (52%) and inflationary pressures (44%) and round out the top business-related challenges.
